Transfer a device

Move a license activation from one machine to another without contacting support.

If your license has spare device slots you can simply activate the new machine — no transfer needed. Transfers only matter when you're at the cap and want to free a slot.

Self-service transfer

  1. Open Licenses on scanix.co.
  2. Find the license and click into it.
  3. Under Activated devices, hit Deactivate next to the device you no longer use. The slot frees up immediately.
  4. On the new machine, run Scanix and activate as normal.

When self-service doesn't work

  • The old device is lost or stolen and can't sign you out cleanly — that's fine, the deactivation above is server-side.
  • Your license is revoked — file a ticket from Support. Operators can investigate.
  • You see "device cap reached" even though you've deactivated — try again in 60 seconds (the desktop client polls our service on a short cadence).

What gets cleared

Deactivating a device removes the device from our records and invalidates its short-lived token. The desktop app will show a "license required" prompt on its next activation check.
