Activation

How activation keys work, how to enter one, and what to do when it fails.

Every Scanix license has an activation key — a long signed token we email to you the moment your trial starts or your purchase completes. The key binds a license to a device; one license can cover up to its max_devices limit.

Entering your key

  1. Open Scanix Desktop.
  2. Sign in with the same email you used at scanix.co (or paste the key directly into Settings → License).
  3. The app calls our license service, registers the device, and stores a short-lived token locally. You're done.

What if activation fails?

The most common causes:

  • Expired trial. Trials are 30 days. After expiry you'll need an active paid license. Check Licenses for status.
  • Device cap reached. Each license has a max_devices value. If you've hit it, transfer the license off an old device first — see Transfer a device.
  • Revoked license. If a license was revoked (refund, fraud, support action) it cannot be reactivated. Open a ticket from the Support area if you think this is wrong.
  • Network blocked. Activation reaches api.scanix.co over HTTPS. Make sure your firewall or proxy allows it.

Offline activation

For air-gapped machines that can't reach api.scanix.co, generate a signed license file at scanix.co/activate-offline and transfer it to the offline machine.

  1. On the offline machine, open Scanix Desktop and choose Continue without an account → Export HWID. Copy the JSON it shows.
  2. On a connected machine (or phone browser), visit scanix.co/activate-offline. Paste your activation key and the HWID JSON, click Generate license file, and save the .lic file you're prompted to download.
  3. USB-transfer the .lic file to the offline machine and load it from the desktop's activation screen.

The license file is valid until your license expires. If your subscription renews, gets revoked, or your trial is extended, generate a fresh file from the same page — the old one becomes invalid.
